Aeronautics
The Aeronautics Division designs, develops, and manufactures the aero structures related to efficient travel through the atmosphere. The current aeronautics team is developing a sounding rocket structure from carbon fiber materials for super-sonic speeds and 30,000 ft. apogee.
Avionics
The Avionics division is developing an Aerodynamics Data Acquisition module to collect data and video feeds during the launch. The data is then used for post-launch analysis in 3D simulation software to optimize the aero structures.
Recovery
The recovery division researched and designed a system that will launch two parachutes to slow down the rocket. The drogue parachute will launch at apogee using black powder to release the shear pins. The main parachute will be released 1650 ft above ground level also with black powder. The division is responsible to calculating parachute size, shock cords, and descent rate.
Materials & Manufacturing
The materials division conducted many tests to find the appropriate material for the construction of the rocket as well as creating a standard manufacturing method for the creation of the carbon fiber that will be used for the rocket. The division created molds, both male and female, to use for building the rocket as well as devising creative solutions to remove the carbon fiber from the molds.
Business
The finance division has organized all fundraisers conducted for the team and reached out to sponsors for donations. The following pie chart shows the cost breakdown of the rocket, the transportation expenses for the competition, and the cost of building the rocket. Any donations or interest in future fundraisers would be greatly appreciated and you can contact us through the sponsorship tab at the top of this webpage.
